Control Your Payroll Costs With a Time Clock
Payroll costs are typically the largest single expense item in a small business. Making sure employees are paid accurately can help to control costs, leading to improved profitability.
Time clocks have been adopted by millions of small businesses because they are easy to install and use. You simply take it out of the box, plug it in, set it up, and start using the clock within minutes. A time clock solution requires no special computer skills. The printed card serves as an irrefutable record of hours worked by the employee in the case of any dispute about pay.
All of the time recorders in this section use paper cards to record time. The clocks fall into three categories:

- Mechanical Time Recorders - these clocks are heavy-duty clocks that will perform in any environment. While the clocks will perform in any environment, they require a manual re-setting at the end of each month.

- Electronc Time Recorders - electronic recorders are programmed to automatically advance at the end of each month. The clocks perform very well in a clean environement.
- Calculating or Totalizing Payroll Recorders - a totalizing recorrder automatically calculates each employees pay period time worked. The clocks utilize special time cards to store employee time punches in the clock until the end of the pay period. A special card is used at the end of each pay period to single the clock to print out a special report on each employee time card summarizing the hours worked.
Punch cards are inserted into time clocks in one of two ways:
- Top Loading
- cards are placed into the top of the clock and the clock will automatically position the card into the correct position. Each clock normally requires a special sized card for that specific clock.
- Side Printing Clocks - cards are inseerted horizontally into the clock. The user must manually line up the card in the correct position. These clocks can also double as a time stamp by inserting other document types into the clock.
